A Place To Stand

A Place To Stand

A Poem by Aidan Singletary

A Place To Stand
-
His eyes are cloudy
His mind a fog,
The darkness, shrouds he
This blimey cog.
-
His feet are planted
in shifting mud
And all around him
Teeth, and blood
-
The first step hurts
His feet, he laid
On top of teeth
Which poked and stayed
-
He did not move;
The price he paid,
For on in front
It feels like blades.
-
He asks himself
What most avoid.
Most simply put:
To fill the void
-
"Why would one
Move from his stoop?
For this is life
And life is truth!"
-
The walls and trenches
Built from mud,
Protecting from
Encroaching blood.
-
And no one knows,
the pain he feels
When darkness comes:
Great Fear appeals
-
-
If he could only reach beyond
And rest his mind
on shores of green
Where mountains stand
And in between,
The dandelions,
Warmed by sun,
Dance around
A lily pond.
-
You call to me
Oh! Vast expanse!
Of wilderness
That God himself
Has painted there
-
Just so I can sit and stare
At his great plan;
A masterpiece,
I understand
-
The beauty here
Gives us hope
Of his plan; clear
And smooth, the slope.
-
We can be,
Here in this land;
A gift from God,
A place to stand.

Each half balances the other, could be an image of existential stasis. Thanks for sharing.
