You Matter

I wrote this a couple years ago in my journal and thought I'd type it up for you guys.

i wish someone could explain to me

why it is we love so fearlessly &

let our hearts beat in another’s hands

only to hate ourselves for not meeting 

society’s plans

it seems silly, really.

everyone on earth is in the same

boat, admiring the same sky, living

in the same bubble, breathing in life,

yet we can’t just let go and shine.

i know that mental illnesses exist,

i’ve been inflicted with them since i was kid,

but i’m done with letting them suffocate me,

and i’m done with not helping those who need me.

i hope you never forget that every bit of anxiety you feel

& all of the voices in your head don’t need to dictate

the person you’re becoming, darling. 

you’re stronger than that.

we all matter, we do.

i just wish people would see that�"

not only in their lover, but in themselves,

too.

on the days when you don’t feel okay,

know that this too shall pass,

as will the hatred in your eyes,

and the sounds of your cries.

so next time you feel like ripping yourself apart

remember your worth, because it’s there, darling,

you’ll someday pull yourself out of the dark.
