But I still love you

But I still love you

A Poem by Imperfection
"

When you believe that the reason for the breakup is you, how do you carry on without your love. This, unfortunately is true.

"

Very rarely does one come across

Someone as exceptional as you

I consider myself lucky that I did

I am grateful for the love you showered on me

For showing faith in me, like no one else

Slowly but steadily I moved closer to you

Shared my heart, enriched my soul

Trusted you with myself

I painted a very pretty picture

Of my future with you

Of our life together.

With your arms around me,

I got over the fears and the insecurities

That had been a part of me for so long

I was happy, I was eager

I was ready to start anew with you

I believed that I could overcome any obstacle

To make my dream come true

All along I was unaware that the biggest hurdle was me

I stumbled, I fell. And got up to a different self

I have lost you to my recklessness

I have stained your life

Sadly, I realized it too late

I have accepted my mistake

But I don’t ask to be forgiven

It’s too big a crime for that

So I have moved away

I hope you can move on

You haven't lost anything

For you are without something,

That wasn't worth having.

But I have lost happiness

The happiness that was made of you.

So, even though I cannot have you here by my side,

I still hold you close to my heart

The first thought on my mind is always Y-O-U

And I carry your memories everywhere I go

You are not with me today

But I will never be without you

OMG - I totally have chills. (sorry - the valley girl slipped out!) This is beautifully written with honesty and (I believe) integrity. I FELT this.

I can relate to it all. The pain and loneliness are here without whining. Excellent job.

I LOVED this line:
"I stumbled, I fell. And got up to a different self"

This is magnificent and exceptionally well done

I felt every word, every line all well placed.

You made my heart beat faster, knowing, as I do, the emotion behind each word.

Bravo

Ouch....

Wow. This is one of the most vividly expressed heartbreaks I have read. My god, I just want to reach out and say... it's OK!! It'll be ok! Everyone is worth having... and we all make mistakes... some small, some huge.. some feel like "the end". I know you've probably heard this a million times and my saying it once more isn't going to shake the earth under your feet, but happiness is truly within. And i say that with the utmost confidence because it put my shattered, crushed, i don't want to eat, sleep, or live heart back together, once I discovered it. It's in you, if you look. That's the key. Okay, enough of my speech...

Your writing itself is excellent! Flow and style magnifcent and content.... felt!

Peace my friend...

This was such a heartbreakingly sad piece and yes, we felt it with you, the pain and the sadness of losing someone very dear to you. Yet your words remained soft without a hint of bitterness towards your lost love, almost like a final plea or maybe your way of starting to find a way to say goodbye one last time

I really loved;
You haven't lost anything
For you are without something,
That wasn't worth having.

I personally thought this was such a brilliant sentence.
Thanks for submitting I really enjoyed this

This expresses so much and to so many, I'm sure. Heartbreaking words and phrases. Sad, sad, sad.

I have to thank your for sharing although I wish it hadn't hurt so much to share.

This is one of the best poems that I have read about break ups. I loved the way the reader can relate. What a powerful piece! Well written!

There is always life after love. It is completely apparent that if this person that you love was so willing to give you up...they were not worth the love you so freely gave to begin with. Love must be unanimous. It is the giving up of one's self ... one's selfish desires for the pure pleasure of bringing pleasure to the one you love. When it works you are truly not giving up anything because the one that loves you does the same so therefore your needs and wants and desires are always fulfilled by the other. Your cup never runs empty. If this love was unable to give that to you...you are better off.

VERY WELL WRITTEN POEM.

Okay, the water is actually bubbling up in my eyes. Have you ever read a piece that basically reflected everything you ever thought of right back in your face? Well, that's exactly what your poem did for me. Envisioning a beautiful life with the woman of my dreams, only to throw it all away for one stupid, reckless night. That's a mistake I'll never be able to forgive myself for. My mother once told me that you know you truly love someone when you care more about their happiness than you do about your own. Well, every night I hold her close to my heart, and wish only that, wherever she is, she is far happier with her new man than she ever was with me.
