Black Holes

Black Holes

A Poem by AJ Douglas

In the vast stygian void of space
callous and cold
devoid of deities
stars exhaust themselves after eons
of sending their light across the universe
bloating like corpses as they decay
obliterating all in their orbit
before collapsing under their own weight
becoming soulless stellar revenants
suffering from an insatiable infinite hunger
nothing escaping their gluttonous gravity
once they've ventured past the point of no return
crushing and consuming matter
its mass melding with the monster
that was once something so beautiful
The fate of those who find fame
is often much the same
