Autumn

Autumn

A Poem by AJ Douglas

I once believed at least

a few things in life mattered

the list dwindling as the years

melted away like winter’s snow

in the warm spring sunshine

or like dead leaves dropping

from the trees in the fall

until all their branches are bare

I am now convinced nothing

is of any consequence in the end

Maybe someday many years

in the future when you find yourself

forgotten and forlorn you’ll wonder

for a moment what happened to me

if I ever found what I was

so desperately searching for

If that scenario comes to be

the answer is no
