Mourn the Songbird

Mourn the Songbird

A Poem by Elle Thompson

Remember you?
Remember all those big dreams and empty promises that filled your life with deceptive light and hope?
Remember standing out because you could not because you couldn't?
Remember feeling taller and important
Remember opening yourself up and getting torn apart
Mourn your emptiness.
Mourn that piece of you that is dead now
Mourn the songbird
I have killed her.

This poem is riveting beyond a shadow of a doubt. I love how you've emphatically wrote this compelling poem. Great job. An intriguing read. :)

thank you :)
Hummm ... this is intriguing. I find myself wondering who the narrator is. The narrator clearly knows the subject deeply, but is not as empathetic as the reader first imagines. Is the poem telling us that we kill our own dreams? I don't think so ... am am left with the nagging question ... who is this?
