Set Free

A Poem by nathan

Excuses!
You looked for every excuse to go
my heart, you said
had become a cage to you
you wished to be free.
so I let you out because I grew weary
of listening to your voice
that like a caged nightingale's
only sang of open fields and new faces
my love had no jurisdiction over
so I unlatched the door hoping that this was just a phase
but when you flew out,
I knew what abandon was
I had loved you with just that, wild abandon
But when you went I got to work.
You should know that there are no metal bars anymore
but gilded walls, painted floors
and crimson carpets and cushions
and no welcome mat for you.
