Lessons for Tate

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Life isn't easy. It isn't meant to be. I'm not one who believes finishing 3rd is winning. We do children a disservice awarding them trophies for participation. Life is a struggle beginning to end.

"

Tatortot and I. A few years ago

These scars I wear each tell a tale

of moments I'll never forget

When loves spark, had once left it's mark

and the fates had called in their debt

My legs torn by years of abuse

racing horses like all my kin

I'd gone down hard, leaving them scarred

the limestone would tear off your skin

But these were offerings of note

in a life spent chasing ideals

Testing extremes, of my own dreams

run down more than once by the wheels

Son you can't live your life afraid

of each danger that comes your way

So play the odds, tempt the damn gods

rise up and face each new born day

When you are but old and feeble

with your grandchild upon your knee

Tell your stories, of life's glories

show him the scars so he can see

A life spent cowering from pain

will  leave you so aching inside

The gift you'd miss, from life's sweet kiss

knowing you never even tried

Younger days when I believed. "Ill sleep when I am dead.

Well said, with life comes bumps and bruises. With love and joy comes pain and hate... To an extent haha. You definitely can't live in fear that's for sure. Nothing great has ever come without risk.

now that's a life lesson from you mr. Tate...I always say to myself that life is dreadful but also life is beautiful in so many ways...scars... marks our being, they completes the you today, they never fade but it evolve into a optimistic new solution of things, like a new understanding of that mark showing that you've learned. and passing this lesson is a great pleasure knowing that it will live on in the next generation....
A very moving piece mr. Tate.

I like the wisdom in your poem. My Grandfather told me the same. "Need memories and test to had a good life. Later you can look back and be content for enjoying each new day." Thank you for the amazing photo and poetry.

This is an important matter that most parents do not understand at some point, that parents can never protect their son forever from the reality of the world, so they need to let their son experience things and learn from it on their own. As a daughter, I've come to that kind of struggle, that as individual I need to get myself out of the shadow of my protective father and it was not easy for me to convince him to let me go on my own. Before my independence came, I always had the wish that instead of protecting me he could have done guiding me. The best thing though was, it was not yet too late for both of us to learn this fact. So lucky is the son in this poem that the father understand this reality completely.

You have penned a very admirable perspective, Sire.

A poem that says it like it is. From the limestone on the ground to the avenue of the gods in heaven, doing what a man does, fully, with mind and heart. To give full rein this way to the impulses brings out the expression lying in wait in us. We are come to the point of experiencing the man.
