My Life

My Life

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

My very first poem Written at the age of 47

"

On mornings hence I'll forget

to forgive this callous blow

That left me broken on the field

where angels hearts don't go

____________________________

As to the scar left there upon

I'll hide it best I can

For fear they might see my pain

and think me not a man

___________________________

When in future I'll be asked

to say this was my fault

Why open this tender heart within

to the unending pain of assault

____________________________

As future bears witness of

my life and deeds inscribe

Descendants will think me as kind

for the life I try to describe

___________________________

In life I took much less than gave

I walked the good heart line

Carried the hopes of the small

held theirs as they held mine

___________________________

But to God, I say through it all

I was true to his design

Gave my heart in earnest love

for a life, sweet, gentle and divine

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
What can be said of the broken heart that hasn't touched most? I was much too old to be having my first and only heart break. It struck me like a thunderclap . Knocked the wind from me and set me off my heels. I was a long time injured. And to a depth yet unknown to me. This is the first poem I ever wrote! Written at the age of 47, 2008. Luckily I went on survived to love and marry again!

Tate....so moving, so sweet to listen to the heart of a real man. Sorry about the broken heart, there is but nothing more painful. Even although we know they mend, it's the damage in between the healing process.
You tell us of your excruciating experience, a place where no man wants to ever visit with his heart, yet you are able to complete such a magnificent poem in doing so.

the closing lines aptly describe what we all want to say when we go up there , when the time comes to finally hang our boots . your loved ones shall always take a note and deem you to be a good man .. enjoyed reading this .

PS - you look like an army man to me !

People take for granted kind gesture's, open hearts, and open ear's. As green mentioned not lashing back, there aren't many left that shoulder pain as their own.

the poem is very well written but i wonder why is there a full stop at the end of each line instead of a comma? is it formatted in such a way? otherwise the poem was deep and insightful.

why open the tender heart within to unending assault..that line did it for me...you write with such emotions..that everyone can relate to..yet may not be as lucky as you to express it in the perfect words..

What I see here is a man who sees himself when he looks in the mirror and knows he's the best him he can be... something we all should aspire to achieve for our own selves. I also see tolerance, kindness, love. Thank you for sharing this beautiful, tender piece with everyone. Write on.
