For My Child

For My Child

A Poem by Tate Morgan

If insight be what you lack then son take it all from me I shall give it to you freely in hopes that you may see

If insight be what you lack

then son take it all from me

I shall give it to you freely

in hopes that you may see

If love is what you should seek

what tales my heart might tell

It has known heights and depths

of the soul as deep as a well

If I could grant precious wisdom

to enlighten your fair sight

I'd say play with your children

teach each how to fly a kite

But learn these old lessons now

while I am here that you might see

For the day will sometime come

when my light shall cease to be

That eve my heart be silent

its music shall play no score

The mind will  go dusk quiet

to be heard from never-more

But heard next day the singing

will float out above the din

The Caroling Angels call

beckoning me to come back in

On that distant fateful morning

I'll stand before them to say

" I washed my soul with happiness

then taught my son to play"

For life's time waits on none of us.
It masters fate with earnest callous.
Caring for none in favored mercy.
Helping not who it shows malice.

The times they are a changing .

what we teach our children is how we truely reach immortality, that our wisdom, imagination and zest for life keep on living through them, and as they grow and prosper, and pass what they learned on to their children,so too do our teachings and ideals, giving us that immortality,if only in small doses...

OMG It is so full of wisdom. Fraternal affection , love and concern flowing in the lyrics of this wonderful rhythmic write. It's endearing and heartfelt.

The phenomena which occurs in busy adults when near their offspring is a thing unable to be replicated, whether in idea or prose, but you have come as close as I think a human is able. The simple act of playing with them is such a freedom and joy; for, who else could get my stubborn knees to bend? To crawl on all fours pretending to be some animal-like quadruped... all to invoke a gleeful laugh from a very small person? Unthinkable, but for these--my children. In this young state to them alone I have little faults, immense potential as an entertainer and appear queen-like in both beauty and brain. It is equally lovely to feel so accepted by them, as it is to give such acceptance back. Who else do we sacrifice so much for? Neither food nor folk, cause nor country could inspire such devotion as we lavish on them... what can we do but teach them what we know? No one else can as we, and in but this small window of childish youth. Nicely done.

As far as song choice--I must admit--your piece made me think more of Everclear's 'Song from an American Movie':
