The Ides of Winter

The Ides of Winter

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Our days lit by constant sunshine strength in numbers was our design In hand me downs we ran through town with baseball bat and ball of twine

"

Our days lit by constant sunshine

strength in numbers was our design

In hand me downs we ran through town

with baseball bat and ball of twine

By golden skies and rustled tree

for reasons yet unknown to me

My eyes were keen to beauty seen

this soul my own as I was free

When Ides of Winter come to be

oh times when lives were all carefree

Follow my track all the way back

to friends who meant so much to me

WOW.. Awesome!

"Then we aged the world took over"

^ Amazing how you shift the pulse and meaning of the poem with just one line!

"When Ides of Winter come to be
oh times when lives were all carefree
Follow my track all the way back
to friends who meant so much to me"

Got me nostalgic there :( Perfect write brother! :) Keep writing.

Poignantly written and filled with the innocent echoes of childhood...I really like your style of writting~ happy weekend to you and yours...

Hmmm! Nostalgic and full of wisdom: we must learn to live with all the events that time brought in. I like the expression Ides of Winter, for indeed, we refer most often to Ides as some unstoppable upsurge of emotions provoked by spring, here you use it for the effects that time causes upon us…..Great image!

This is such an amazing write, this should possible be my favorite from you. I would pick a favorite line- but it would be the entire poem! great job.

I don't think I have anything to say, but to applaud you for the way your poems touch the soul of the reader.

"Our days lit by constant sunshine
strength in numbers was our design
In hand me downs we ran through town
with baseball bat and ball of twine"
This definitely made me remember my own childhood, swinging my cricket bat, arguing with my cousins, and playing the greatest matches never played!

"Then we aged the world took over
legs ran no more through the clover
As older eyes forgot young ties
no longer gods constant rover"
Just sublime. Really awesome, and a very apt way of describing how merriment takes a backseat as life progresses. The world just get bigger and bigger, till we can no longer enjoy it.

"When Ides of Winter come to be
oh times when lives were all carefree
Follow my track all the way back
to friends who meant so much to me"
It has just been three years since I finished school, and I'm already thinking of those golden days!
I think the aaba rhyme scheme is really pleasant, and it suits this poem perfectly.
Awesome poem!

There is such a joy in reflections of those rich days gone by.. and yet to rediscover that joy today is the miracle I guess... What a wonderful, insightful write. I remember The Sandlot!

A nice little piece of nostalgia. The older and more disillusioned we become, the more we return along memory lane to those uncomplicated times of youth. Blake divided his poetry into 'Songs of Innocence' and 'Songs of Experience'. It's the 'Experience' that kills us in the end.
