Damned Pride

Damned Pride

A Poem by Tate Morgan

Every man knows his weakness.

Days gone by.

It takes of a man some courage

to admit when he has lost

Then swallow back his hard won pride

which had come at such high cost

All men know of their own weakness

for the temptations of life

They fight themselves to no avail

unhappy without life's strife

For a man is here to suffer

to stand up fast to the gale

To struggle against all lifes odds

to either win, lose or fail

Men who feel this innate desire

tempt the will of unkind fates

To write their names upon life's wall

as one of the worlds true greats

Only when a man has fallen

does he reach his true, found, worth

He knows of nothing until then

of the reason for his birth

A man can always take comfort

in the things he must abide

To gaze in the mirror broken

taking heart from that he tried

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
All of us are at our best when life is at it's worst. As I tell my son I would much rather you were a good sport in losing .Than a bad winner. We could all learn that lesson a few times.

Very true. One of life’s greatest ironies, that we have innate desires which oftentimes become our greatest failure, that fight against nature.

Emerald hi dear. I am always my On worst enemy
There is much we can learn through our losses. Accept them with grace and resolve to do better. If you understand failure than success is all the sweeter. Good to read you again Tate. All the best.

Pride can cause is many troubles in life and in order to learn we must fall from time to time.

Thank you Ricky so much
This is very good! I love how you keep up with your rhyme scheme, and the message that you try to convey. I can not think of much to work on, except maybe work on some of the language. I know that can be hard, and also mess up a poem, but sometimes it works out well to incorporate bigger, fancier words. That is of course something we all can work on, overall this is great! Keep up the great work.

We all try our best and hate to fail. Admitting failure is a rare talent. Overcoming it, rarer still. It's hard to admit weakness and even more difficult not to get puffed up when we seem to outstretch our peers.

thank you this is a rather old version of a poem I wrote quite a bit ago
I was about to say this is so true! I mean you captured something that happens in not only a man's life but just a person in general, failure is good for everyone, it shows you who you really are and how you can deal with things. great job!

This is so true! I have seen men at their worst and is only than that they realized their worth and what they have.
