Youthful Vision

Youthful Vision

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Our minds are what capture and keep good and painful thoughts that abound Should we choose to tolerate them bad times will be our only sound

"

Old years like waves broke on the shore

a burnt sky felt both dark and gray

The winds had howled so cold and long

my soul was beaten night and day

I wonder if there was a time

when I could have turned right not left

And in so doing change my fate

thereby saving this heart bereft

But those are thoughts best left alone

to think on when there’s nothing more

As now we have the blue-sky smiles

bright summer,  red eves to adore

I find they are just our choices

that is which times we think upon

To live in pain from days gone by

or within the light there-upon

Our minds are what capture and keep

good and painful thoughts that abound

Should we choose to tolerate them

bad times will be our only sound

For me I choose the bright sunlight

spring times when I was but a child

The favored memories of days

when I ran torrid, fast and wild

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
I decided long ago that when the winds blew me cold and long. I would simply look within myself. For memories of days when I was sleek, fast and strong.

My man Tate...

"I wonder if there was a time
when I could have turned right not left
And in so doing change my fate
there by saving this heart bereft"

There was a time, and you used it wisely, as the "road" decision is part of all of our histories..Frost knew what road was best for him, and so did you..

"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

You are just "telling this with a sigh"..in this poem.
And I am glad to have read it.

The pen takes over for strong muscles, sometimes..and your pen is "sleek and strong"

Very excellent write!
"I wonder if there was a time
when I could have turned right not left
And in so doing changed my fate

Those lines right there made me think about my on life! If there was things I could have done different or better or not done at all! Great write as always!

If life was eternal rainbows... what lessons would we learn.

It is said that Robert Frost's joke on the world was that his readers took his "Road Less Taken" at face value; that is, that by taking the road less traveled, it has made ALL the difference. His point in the the poem is often missed completely- it is the attitude with one faces life, not the decisions themselves, that make the difference in life. I know people who have had everything handed to them, and still resent other people for being better at anything than they are; and I know others with nothing who are delighted at every little accomplishment by someone else. By choosing not to be bitter, not to complain, not to shirk your path- you are choosing, simply, to live, eyes wide open, with whatever decisions you make. And that, my friend, is living.

Awesome all the way around. A youthful vision is always nice but sometimes I think bittersweet. But keeping things positive is the way to go if one can.

You are quite the wordsmith. I do a lot of soul searching and find myself thinking what I could have different in my life. There are many things, but I wouldn't be the person I am today. Like your fellow reviewers, we all know that we all need to embrace our pain as well as our happiness. With this rich contrast, we are able to create beautiful works of art...like your poem.
I'm glad you finished it one a positive note, for one positive thought can lead to another, then another....
Thanks for sharing!
