My Sunshine

My Sunshine

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

I awoke de-ar, one night from dream-ing found twenty ye-ars, had slipped me b-y All that ti-me, I'd been for-saken with each gray ha-ir, there came a si-gh

"

My granddaughter Payton last week on the deck.
These are all 24' by 18" canvases done in graphite pencil. I drew this picture last week after playing with her.

When a young ma-n, you were a twin-kle

within the e-ye, of a dream one da-y

I laughed each ti-me, I thought of yo-u

wondering just wha-t, you might sa-y

I awoke de-ar, one night from dream-ing

found twenty ye-ars, had slipped me b-y

All that ti-me, I'd felt for-saken

each new gray ha-ir, there came a si-gh

Just one look de-ar, was all I nee-ded

to know you we-re, the girl I sa-w

The dream I wo-uld, always trea-sure

with the fir-st, of your words Pa-pa

The night no lo-nger, haunts m-e

with dreams of what ma-y, not come tru-e

Now each da-y, a new ad-venture

since life li-t, my world with yo-u

To Payton
I wish you a long and happy life. And may your first words be Papa Tate.

I think I broke every rule with this one lol
I was playing with my granddaughter last week on the deck and could swear she said "Papa".That was all it took for me I was hooked. I'm so easy lol

Set to the melody of You Are My Sunshine, the piece is to be sung to the melody. Hence the hyphens and pauses

This is absolutely beautiful Tate, it melted my heart. It really brings me back to when I was little, how wonderful everything was. I can even remember my mother singing this song to me before bed or when I was scared.
Thank you for sharing this piece and thank you for bringing back such precious memories.

Sweet thoughts, sweet words, typically Tate .. heartstrings pulled and a million sighs.
As for rules, they're meant to be broken, even Papas can be anarchists when it comes to poetic form; seems as if the poem came first and the music was an afterthought.

Somehow I fit the words to the melody in a completely different way, haha. Very lovely; I used to love this song when I was young. Excellent job--an interesting perspective, too.

Truly a lovely poem. My mum used to sing me this song when I was a baby, so it holds special meaning for me. I really enjoyed this. Great work!

Absolutely beautiful Tate and one of my favorite songs. We both have granddaughters named Payton so you know this one really struck close to home. Your art is incredible, you are a very talented man, no doubt. :) .
