A Stone from the Universe

A Stone from the Universe

What is the relevance of a silly stone in this universe? Even it is not living, it holds the legend of time......

A Stone from the Universe

The summer vacation was-

coming to a halt then.

I was left alone in my house,

away from my friends, the study etc.

There was a thing on the terrace-

that drew my attention.

There was the clear blue sky above my head,

the red hot sun on its edge.

There were many beautiful flowers in my garden,

butterflies and birds chirping around.

There were several gorgeous girls too-

on the road, enjoying the evening.

But what drew my attention was-

nothing more than a stone.

A cold black stone.

You may think that it's absurd to think

that the stone holds much greater value than me!

In fact, that silly stone is not silly at all.

That stone once could've been a-

piece of a giant star.

It might be a microscopic fraction of-

that red giant I simply hold in my hand.

Millions and millions of years ago

it played a part of a star,

but now resting on my palm-cold.

That silly piece of stone can tell me a story.

A story without a definite beginning nor an end.

A story that spreads over millions of years.

It can tell me the whole story of the human race,

the story about our earth the beginning of life,

the story about our sun,

the formation of entire solar system.

A tremendously great story that lies-

beyond the boundary of our imagination.

But when I looked at the stone through and through,

I found out something peculiar, something wonderful.

Something in common between me and that stone.

Every cell of my body and every microscopic particle

in that stone came from the same place!!

Hard to believe but true!!!

Billions of years ago,

before the time begun with a BANG,

me and that stone were together.

Concentrated on a very small region -

in an unimaginably dense state.

Then we parted, at light's speed*

But even after time has run a long way,

it came back to me.

I really marvelled to see the part of-

myself on that little stone.

Now I'm changing the lyrics.

We're equally great actually.

Except the fact that-

Only I can make an extraordinary poem-

out of a seemingly ordinary black stone!

*literally I mean. You know no body can never acquire the speed of light by 'Einstein’s Theory of Relativity'. But I really doubt that theorem.

Good to have you back and be able to read your writing again :) This is a great story from "an ordinary black stone" ! I wonder about it being a poem though and think it stands on its own more as prose or even a short story perhaps? Our humble beginnings are explored perfectly in your work. Nicely done. Penny

Revisiting this and pondering over latest developments since I last read this piece. It acknowledges the creation we are and the Creator in us making me question if I had ever try to make this world better as a Creator's image.

Really great little story/poem.
We're made of space dust right?
So of course we can relate. :)

Interesting premise. My only suggestion would be to alter the format to prose.

Great to have you back on here :)

I like this poem- really thought-provoking and gets us to think about things beyond surface level, and that sometimes the simplest of things can have a deeper, underlying layer that we can discover :)

Now that is so awesome, this rok can teach us a lesson in that there is always more than meets the guy, nature is full of lessons when we take time to look around and enjoy the beauty that God and Mother Nature created.
