You left

You left

A Poem by Jo
"

A poem I wrote a while ago

"

and just like that

you chose to leave

after all we have been through

you took the love i gave you

and threw it away

without a second thought

taking not only my best friend

but my reason to force the shallow

breathes in and out

of my already clenching throat

in a desperate attempt to keep

the shuttered cries inside

I leave out the capitalization on purpose so please focus more on the context instead of that.

It's nice. It's very sad, but nice.

One thing, it should be "breaths." With the E it is breathe, as in the verb to breathe.
