if i had a red wagon

if i had a red wagon

A Poem by Audrey Murray

if i had a little red wagon where would i go down the lane around the corner what would i see from my little red wagon so  close to the ground where i could reach my hand touch the cement count the cracks wiggle squiggle haphazard in my path make my little red wagon wheels go bump bump bump push me one way then the next where will i go if i sit in my little red wagon without a way to steer the wheels go around the cracks  in my path do i know when i begin where i will end and where is the in-between now and then keep my eyes  open wide for the space between the cracks

if I had a little red wagon it would be the little red wagon  that could go where raindrops grow wild flowers on mountain tops after the wind blows winter snows from every corner where the sun comes up the moon disappears round and round i would go back home to dream of the places i have been friends far and wide go again down the lane around the corner  to know what i have not yet seen in the cracks and the space between

thank you Monic for your feedback The cracks are complex they could be old wounds that I may or may not want to revisit, they could be risks that I may or may not want to experience or they may be decisions that may entrap me ...on the other hand the spaces that one navigates are also to be explored In an earlier version of the poem I talked about the risks of staying "at home" with my wagon clean and polished ,,a virtual safe death!!!!!

A simple yet complex piece of childhood, innocence, and direction. I would love to know more about the symbols you intended for the line:
"in the cracks and the space between"

I adore this line--please do tell me what it means to you.
