Prisoner

Prisoner

A Chapter by A. L. Allen

I sit in this dank cell

Alone and chained.

They know full well

That I have sinned.

I killed a man

For he killed my child.

I tell anyone I can

And they think I’ve gone wild.

Oh, if only they’d heard

The wailing of my dear wife

At the sight of her son butchered

Because he was a supposed “low-life”.

Justice was all I wanted.

The murderer has paid the price

For the crime he committed.

Now I’m left paying for my vice.

Tomorrow I’ll be hanged.

My poor body will swing.

They all think I’m deranged,

They’ll probably laugh when I hang by a string

I don’t regret it

Killing that man

Someone had to do it

Or else he would have ran

I’ve come to grips

With my fate

The end is at my fingertips

And I’m actually happy with my state!

They say I’ve gone crazy;

Well, I’ve got news for them

I really am crazy!

They were right to condemn.
