The Cell

The Cell

A Poem by Rob Luciano
"

Authors note: This piece was improvised from a jail cell at approximately 6:53am, Sunday June 29th 2008. It was not written on paper until approximately 11:04am that same morning.

"

As God as my witness
I have searched for you
Under half moons
and in strawberry seeds
To no avail

I have searched for you
in the most majestic of castles
and the most humble of cots
Yet you still elude me

In my quest for you
I have lost my freedom
I have lost my treasure
I have even lost
my mental fortitude
For I have searched
at the bottom of a bottle

Now I do declare
From this day forth
I search for you no more

And it shall come to pass
that my heart will be
as cold and as lifeless
as the cell that I stand in

I have chosen to write
my testament of sorrows
directly on it's walls
with blood
from a pricked finger

So that my fellow captives
will proclaim
the truth I am about to speak
That love is a beautiful guitar
which I fear I will never master

And upon their release
They will serve as witness
to the entire world

I absolutely love the line about love being a guitar that will never be mastered. An excellent poem, well done.
