For I Seek the Burn of Your Fire // An Ode to Cayenne Pepper (Petrarchan Sonnet)

For I Seek the Burn of Your Fire // An Ode to Cayenne Pepper (Petrarchan Sonnet)

In all my days of making meals to taste,
my fav'rite mix of cayenne spice unfolds,
and shows my need for my food to be bold,
my fam'ly tells me it should be replaced.

Dear cayenne pepper how I love you so,
your burning kicks make my tongue feel alive,
but still I reach for milk to neutralize,
your flavored fire as it makes me glow.

You sing a song of raging winds inside,
and stomachs growl a mighty tune of love
though some don't care for the heat you provide
and once smooth rides to my plate become rough;
as friends and fam'ly try once to divide,
I stand and say that I don't have enough.
