A Zoo Within

A Zoo Within

A Story by Cat Tee
"

a zoo let loose

"

When he told me he didn’t

love me anymore

a zoo let loose

metaphorically allowing rampage in my body, on my heart.

The once caged and calm

lovebirds on their perch

screeched at the sight of

freedom within my skin.

Other birds took the signal and

flew rapid fire, hitting the

glass panes of my eyes over

and over, shaking rain clouds to leak.

The liberated tigers growled

and scratched at my innards

causing a twisted nausea and hunger state.

As a sob clutched hold of my throat

so did the monkeys

climb up the constraining vocal cords.

Laughter was the result.

Night drew a blanket over me

And every animal type settled

Within me in their proper place.

Except the hippos

who had occupied my heart,

My melted heart.

And the hippos waded

at the bottom of the pool.
