In Effigy

In Effigy

A Poem by Elizabeth

day old fish smells better than the roses you left on my doorstep
and when you shift your weight from one foot to another
I know you are lying

anyway, love

last night I burned rotten fish entrails
in effigy

a fitting tribute, I thought
to your smile

This is great! I can feel the anger in this piece. Love it!

feel the anger, for some unknown reason made me laugh, no intentions of minimizing the pain or intent

very deep, strong. powerful. I felt anger, hate and a need for revenge. I would never want to do you wrong.

This poem packs a punch. The last two lines are killer. Remind me not to get on your bad side!
Great writing and very compact.

LOL that is so fitting the cold heart of a woman for a man who is branded a liar.

The smell of your burning fish entrails
makes me feel right at home.
I think that in a very few words you have
ruptured his self esteem, blackened his
soul and his eyes and made his feet sore.
Thank you,
---- John

Nice, the slivers of images, some literal and other metaphors tell such a large story for such few words.

Yes! I love that this read like a (not so flattering) love letter! You bleed your emotions into your work and it makes for some mind blowing writing. I love your writing so much!
