the poet's curse

the poet's curse

A Poem by bill angell

the poet’s curse

as a fledgling poet

I discovered the magick of verse,

that with poetic license

words I could coerce,

to make profound statements

without having to rehearse

elegant speech or

boring rules of grammar traverse.

ah yes, dear friends

soon my delusions became even worse,

I began to add metaphors

to my poetic license purse

and without provocation

these gems of wisdom I would disperse

on any unsuspecting soul

that stopped to converse.

as my poetic license

grew even more perverse

I began to notice that people

would suddenly reverse

their direction  and avoid me

as if I were a curse

and now I have chosen

to flee this world of commerce

and the life of the hermit

will be my universe

and I shall spend my happy days

content to intersperse

all my wonderfully

bad verse.
