When the Smiles Fade

When the Smiles Fade

A Poem by Megan

Is it okay

If I say

I can’t do this today?

Day in and day out

Keeping happy is such a huge goal

It brings happiness to the people surrounding

But at what expense to me?

So today I realized I couldn’t

Keep this smile on my face

The smile that’s true

And reaches the eyes.

The people flocked around,

Wanting to help in a way

They couldn’t mend my heart.

So I told them to leave.

And I reflected upon myself.

The pain hurt much that day

And I couldn’t maintain the smiles

That paint my face constantly.

Upon reflection I realized

I couldn’t be happy

For everyone else that day.

This poem really hit home for me, you've expressed such an intricate feeling excellently. This poem is very simple, it flows well, and the concept relates to many people. You've done a real god job here, keep up the hard work!

This makes me think of the past. I used to be enabled to go thorough the day. I fond the font to be ironic. You are talking about depression (I assume), but the font is bubbly and lighthearted.

I liked the way you asked a question, then explained or answered it.
I've seen, (and I'm guilty at times, though I try not to be,) a writer present a thought or question something and then doesn't help the reader figure it out. Last time I checked, readers cannot read the minds of the writer.
As writers, we have to help them along in our story or poem. You did this well.
Thanks for an interesting poem.
