See you soon.

The words rolled off your lips

like the laughter of a child;

so ready, so contagious.

These words left a light

shining in her darkened sky.

A light

at the thought of seeing you once more.

Yet, days went by; months, years...

That see you soon was looking pretty dull

after years of broken promises, broken commitments.

That see you soon was present in her longing eyes,

searching for you.

That see you soon formed

the tears that welled in her eyes

and rolled down her cheeks.

That see you soon was

the desire in her heart, utmost.

That see you soon

became her love for you.

That see you soon also broke her

heart in two.

Because the reality was not see you soon,

as you so proclaimed.

The reality was until next time,

a much harder fate to realize.
