speak

speak

A Poem by blueviolin

i.

i have not come to die for you.
i've come to peel plastic from your eyes

look
at the drunken mosquito -
fat
red
alive

my blood is not hidden from him

or you

ii.

stop.

hand them over -
your payslip
your degree
your father's name (if you know it)
what the mirror said (if you can remember)

are you sure you're all that's left?

good
now you can speak

iii.

i don't want poetry tonight

i want Aretha's voice
and a memory

i don't want flowers on a grave
or crack-filled streets named after me

i want resurrection

iv.

someone died in an unforgiving place
someone laughed about the same time

i just hope they're not connected

v.

you still haven't spoken

here -
your payslip
your degree
your father's name
what the mirror said

now you don't have to

My favorite line out of this whole piece. It really stuck out. It gets me thinking... like, no matter how much you hide your vulnerability, there are always gonna be people that get to you, 'cause the soul fact you're breathing makes them aware you have your vulnerabilities.

I don't know, was that even what you were trying to get at? :x
