i will wake up to a day where these Jericho walls have fallen

i will wake up to a day where these Jericho walls have fallen

A Poem by blueviolin

when this man wakes in the morning
he knows the end is nearer
the air is still
like ice or peace
and the birds are all
singing for sex

he rises out of bed
a nightmare
still clinging to his skin
like leftover cigarette smoke
and wonders how close the sun really is

or how far people are willing to go
for a one night stand
with God
because night is like day to Him
and a day is like a thousand years

but our throats are dry from far too many
desert days

we can't
sing
anymore

these days he wonders
where have all the rivers gone
what have they done to simple days
and when will the sound of his heart beating
be enough to drown out the sound of hatred
impregnating the air

everyone looks afraid
like something is breathing over their shoulders
so they wear smiles like the moon wears the sun
like the night sky wears stars that died
long ago

perhaps it's the past
tired from trying to catch up to them

or maybe love has finished its journey
and come home to them

a love they didn't even have to sing for
