Clearing the Sky

Clearing the Sky

A Poem by Brandon Mathis

Get away from the past

Open the door to your future

Find out what you really want more

I won’t forget but I will forgive

I don’t want to live with this till the end

So I stand up

Realize that I have had enough

I want it all but my past had me against the wall

It wants me to fall and crawl

Even though it hurts so much

I will stand right back up

So I clear the sky

Wipe away all the tears I have cried

Move the clouds

Shouting out loud

That you will never take my pride

It had been raining inside of head for so long

My heart had never felt so lost

Where did it all go wrong?

Why am I singing the same old song?

All this time I thought my life was gone

And that I never belonged

I forget about the past

Made a stand for myself

Cleared these black skies

The rain has stopped flooding inside my head

I will never forget my regrets

But I have found a new way to laugh

I have opened a new door

Reached my hand out to a future

I have found something more

My life I now adore

I found what I had lost

It was never gone

Inside of me is where it was all along

With nothing wrong

I sing to a new beautiful song

A very well-put mission statement of enduring in the wake of the most painful of scenarios...the key image for me when I read this (and I read it a couple of times) was "not forgetting but forgiving" and the begrudging undertone of that action in light of all the sentiments that follow...great piece :)
