Falling Shadows

Falling Shadows

A Poem by Brandon Mathis

I can stand the wind

Hitting me in the face

The cold beneath my skin

Is burning through my mistakes

It feels like this is forever

But I will never surrender

I can’t stand when you don’t love me

The pain gets to me

I can feel the hate grow in side of me

I want to escape but I can’t get free

Your touch now feels like misery

Why don’t you get away from me?

The more you get away

The less that you take

All of my strength

Stops you from in between

My soul and heart

But you still try to tear me apart

I won’t give up that easily

Falling from the black outside

Falling whispers in the dark

Falling shadows blackened my heart

My scars would glow in the night

Still trying to figure out where I am in my life

I hope that you have some advice

It feels like I’m in this life alone

My soul lives but my spirits broke

I reach down deep and grab my hope

Taking back what life I still own

I hold it close

I’ll never let it go
