Etched in Stone

Etched in Stone

A Poem by Brandon Mathis

Your words are etched in stone

Bleeding through the walls

Hiding in the shadows

Permanently tattooed in my soul

Trapped to this broken hope

It’s getting harder to keep this pain in

My eyes scream and I can’t close them

I’m asking why

I always get left behind

To everything that I hold inside

Your words catching up to me like fire

From my grave the shadows arise

Words on the stone

Breaking through the windows

I’m losing the race

As my dark memories creep in close

Trapped behind enemy’s gates

And I’ve lost the key to hope

Hiding in the shadows broke

There’s nothing left of me to spare

With no regrets

Who even cares?

Your words bleeding through the walls

I can’t take another step

This broken hope has me dead

Going off inside my soul like a bomb

This pain that I hold never stops

Wanting me to give in but I’m not

The fire falls like tear drops

Creeping in close

These words etched in stone

amazingly written the scene of the complete poem just runs into mind while I read this, it is one dark and sad poem with such a nice description, the way you used gravestone connection.. It rocked!!!
