Twenty One (Again)

Twenty One (Again)

A Poem by brandubh

I’ve fixed my age at twenty one

For more years than I can count

But my body belies my thinking

As hair loss and wrinkles mount

So I need to consider my status

It is what a noble man would do

Twenty one is so hard to portray

Should I feign to be twenty two?

Alas my frame reveals the wear

That screams I’m fighting years

Failing senses are confirmation

Of far too many birthday cheers

This year I turned the big six oh

But for living I’ve still got a thirst

So this year I’ve just celebrated

What I call a fortieth twenty first
