Still Life

Still Life

A Poem by Brent
"

A freestyle poem about being relevant.

"
My whole life I've been "i"rrelevant.
But, I'm relevant.
I carry the
pride of two races some
die in a race they won.

Some cry on shoulders or pillow cases.
Dried flowers next to broken vases.
Another drop in a sea of broken faces.

I'm broken but fixing to be a legend.
I've been rejected 6 times.
Now, this is my 7th Heaven.
Bless me or curse me, they heard me.

And they see me
achieving dreams that I foresaw
when life was just a wrecking ball.

I was racing downhill to nowhere.
Past signs saying "Don't go there!".
Past friends that I haven't seen
since the last year I was a teen.

My new ways grew out of these old days.
Born again without dying.
The still life finally in motion.
Truth found after years of lying.

Howdy Brent: I really enjoyed the poem. Your syntax is spot on. The lines "...rejected 6 times. / Now this is my 7th heaven" is great word choice and somehow evokes the stumbling steps we take in search of who we are to ourselves. Nice work. And yes, it relates! Oh, does it relate.

You're not alone. But, as long as we are alive, we can make ourselves relevant.
Your revelations over time form the person
you're to be,
but not still--like a still life at all.
nice structure, here in this along with reflections.

Good thoughts. The real win is the death of the old lies! This is a life lesson that many never learn. Keep going forward!

Well done, great feat! Was a good read, yes I can relate to all those emotional lines, but I too haven't given up, so I can relate to that as well.

I have been through all you've described so beautifully-starting with the line-some die in a race they won...

So I'm here to give hope to all those who've given up, who've been through what you wrote but gave up, coz I haven't-given up.

I, I reinvent myself everyday when I look in the mirror, I try to be the best rather than let things be, I've cried my heart out knowing I had a choice not to, I've seen the illusions of pride when victory knocked-me down, but still I dont give up, coz everyday is a new day, a new gift from God to do whatever you can...

Good writing

No problem. You deserve it!
tl;dr, You're only irrelevant when you stop trying. Maybe that's an over-simplification, but that's what I got out of it. The funny thing is that's the attitude that has lead me here. Go figure. :)
