vote republican

A Poem by B. Lapinski

I think it's stupendous

how society works

how we drive our fat cars

windows rolled down

on hot summer days

cigarettes resting between two yellow fingers

singing along to the radio

filling our hungry tanks

at 3.50 a gallon

thanking our country when it fall to 3.15

getting facelifts stapling our stomachs

because we all want to be

that Victoria secret

or Calvin Klein

sex symbol we see in all the adds

on all the magazine covers

we all want to resemble something that we're not

we all want to sell out

be famous

placed on screen

with photographers chasing us around

until we finally go insane

overdose on medication

that was prescribed by a highend doctor

out for a buck

not caring if you live or die

f**k those "green cars"

I want bigger SUVs

that take 125 dollars

to fill the tank

F**k privacy

and all my constitutional rights

I want to be safe

F**k bringing our troops home

I want to forget the reason we sent them in the first place

F**k being proud of myself

I'll just sell out like everyone else

get brainwashed

and vote republican

I was worried by the title...so I had to read it. And then, you switched it and it...it's reverse psychology...a true mirror image to the time. Great job--S

intresting...and the ending line "F**k bringing our troops home
I want to forget the reason we sent them in the first place"
a sad truth.....
anyway...there are many ways to take this and i am proud to take them in all the ways I see fit... a great right...and a perfect time for such pieces......great job

The poem is well put together, makes it's point very clearly, The point is somewhat misinformed in my opinion but what's an opinion anyway?

A wonderful polemic on the innanity of capitalist materialism. But the financial power is now starting to ebb east as sovereign wealth funds hoover up large stakes in troubled US banks. The next step will be the de-coupling of gulf arab countries from the dollar. Tis sad to witness. Note: Ford sold two old English marques to India's Tata this week...Jaguar and Land Rover. Shame the Indians don't know cars are sooo 20th century! I thought this was a gutsy poem. I thought the best line was 'Until we finally go insane'...as it seems to sum the excess up nicely.

First of all, I wrote my piece in two minutes. Straight from the heart, unlike your personal venting sessions. You have nice concepts, but you try too hard. -Omatori T.
