EarthQuake

EarthQuake

A Poem by K L B
"

You are magnetic zero.

"

you cracked like ceramic under the rubble
grimy with gratitude and gritty with grief,
my fingertips tracing fear against your lips
as I leaned over your honesty
and inhaled,
just a little,
just enough,

until I could taste all of time ticking against your tongue.
because you’re magnetic zero,
a fissure in my faith,
my hopeless, half-wit hero
and you’re drumming like thunder inside my head
as hindsight holds me hostage,
hips pressed against your heart
shaking fingers tearing your skin apart
until I’ve scattered your skeleton and reaped my reward,
lungs aching with the ashen clouds you left
with easy finality, such perfect finesse.
Where are we now?
Ranking regrets and scaling scars
as though the magnitude even mattered
when our number never came
and the anticipation never matched the motivation
because this is all of me,
crumbling to the core,
dividing the space between fusion and closing every damn door
as I lean over your earthquake
and inhale,
just a little,
just enough,
until this temporal tidal wave trips and trembles
over our bedrock like the best kind of bad news
and I’m left clinging to the heartbreak
as though it’s all I ever needed from you.
