MUTEA Poem by jsharpI intended it to allude to the experience of a young girl who has fallen victim to sexual abuse
MUTE
That invisible act, clean hands apparently inviting An earful of silence, bitter determination. No vocals cry in defense of innocence, which is so craved No speech to press for release, though perhaps it was fate. Suffocating on words not yet rehearsed that should have been uttered A plea for freedom encasing hope, formed only by the eyes. A silent wound so powerful, yet never acknowledged, An absent tongue, a severed soul. How does that sound?
