Split

Split

A Poem by A.Lee

Can a person be strong
Yet feel weak inside?
Can we fight to be seen
As we're trying to hide?

Crying tears of pain
Beneath brilliant smiles
Fading through the black
While we push through our trials

Can we live on the outside
As if everything's fine
Though inside we're dying
Just biding our time

Can a person be peaceful
While inside they go mad?
As they're turning in circles
Giving all that they have?

Can't decide who we are
Even if we could choose
Whether happy or sad
Either way we would lose

Can a person keep living
Holding on to both lives?
Now so used to their pain
Neither side of them thrives

Needs some work still, so thoughts are welcome. This popped in my head while I was trying to go to sleep and I didn't want to lose it, so here is the product of my overactive mind.

You present us with a vast scope of questions... deeply dividing our external and internal selves. Can what is on the outside ever fail to mirror the inside? Powerfully spoken and profoundly voiced.

The answer to all that is "yes." Most work can always use some "polish." (I need to go through my stuff and do just that one of these days.) But I'd say you organized your thoughts and words quite well already with this. Seems you write of someone who gives a darn in a world that's populated mostly by "self-servers." Well done. Well expressed. Well written.

really? it's really nice as it is, methinks. the conflicting emotions really take centre stage here, and everything's here just so cool. brilliant

It is impossible to be pulled into two directions. We must find a peace somewhere in our life. I could feel the struggle and desire to know what to feel. A excellent poem.

i dont see this piece as needing more work
its a perfect conclusion to all the imperfections and contradictions that live within us
wisdom rises within us when we can see both worlds and stand our ground somewhere in between

There are two sides to the emotions and one answer, we will never understand them! lol

You gave me the image of a mother. Its amazing how they hold everything together. There are adults who received so much love, they are just realizing that they were from poor families. This poem, to me, is a sweet tribute to those heroines.

:o Ichigo? That's from... ah.. that one anime show, right? xD
From what I think I know of him, he is, indeed, split. So, I must agree that he's a great choice for the picture.
Photo aside, however, this is an exquisite piece.
I felt torn as I read it, like I often do throughout the day.
So much to be happy for, and yet so many reasons to lay in bed and cry.
One moment, you've got a firm grip on reality. The next, your sanity is in peril of being lost forever.
Thank your overactive mind for me. This was certainly enjoyable to read.
