A Stranger to Myself (Small Town Blues)

A Stranger to Myself (Small Town Blues)

A Poem by Candice Stanfield
"

Formerly titled "Small Town Blues".

"

Are you nervous

Now that no one's around to entertain?

When the only thing looking back

Is a blank stare in a mirror

      A vacant mass of delusion

Your peeled back veil of reality

Ghastly mimics echo through the tunneled halls

Without roots to grip themselves still

Do your thoughts run wild

As you creak softly into shelter?

Treading poorly into a make-shift haven

While thoughts of neon lights wet your appetite

Yes... nervous as hell, actually! Wow, I like the way this is written. Good night, Irene... this is gripping... terrifying even. I like it.

I grew up in Southern California and then my parents moved us to Tenino, Washington...a one block town. I know what you are talking about,
very good with the descriptions of boredom and depression.
