A Robin Without A Song

A Robin Without A Song

A Poem by Carlos Salinas

A Robin without a Song

Though he may not be able to sing in key,
No other bird could sing with such emotion as could he,
His notes came out in a cacophony of noise,
Others couldn’t hear what he thought was a great voice;

He practiced and practiced to woo a pretty bird,
But she thought he was the worst she had ever heard,
With a broken heart, he flew away in shame,
Singing quietly to himself, with only himself to blame;

He thought he was alone, without a song,
Until another cacophonous voice came along,
She sang what she thought was in key,
But no lady bird could have such passion as she;

Now the tree is filled with two voices off-key,
Other birds say he sounds horrible, and so does she,
But they could not possibly be any more happy,
Than singing their love song high up in their tree.
