Poppycock or Not?

Poppycock or Not?

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Have you been tempted?

"
I question why I felt the need
to key-click for a psychic read.
Clairvoyant Chris responded quick
to tell me that I should take heed,
advice he said he'd offer me.

A deep, dark cloud it does appear
has parked itself above my head,
discharging negativity.

A tarot reading followed this,
then e-mails daily, one by one.
He could not understand why I
had chosen not to follow through.
I smile because I'm far too smart
to part with cash before a fight.

So fate is written in the stars,
a three day chance for me to see,
an opportunity for light
to live my life more happily.

If I should dawdle or delay,
it does convey within the charts,
this one and only given gift
will pack its bags and move away.

The chance for my poor heart to find
some tranquil moments, peace of mind,
may vanish for a twelve year spell
and I'll be left to struggle on
with further bouts of untold hell.

an oldie, but nevertheless an enthralling read .. apparently my wife was told she would meet and eventually marry a blue eyed Sagittarian a month before we first hooked up .. I am glad I fell upon this page, apart from reading pleasure, your words gave me something far more profound to ponder .. Neville

How they all pretty much work.
Obviously, Chris, you have these charlatans properly figured.
Perceptive poem!

Thank you Jimmy.
There are many people that seem to want to be told what to do. Or needing reassurance that they’re doing the right thing. It amazes me how popular such purveyors of various “future readings” can be! Your poem does a good job of spoofing this phenomenon, while also participating a little bit & thereby showing how we can all fall prey to the plentiful snake oil vendors! You show how we all have a little tidbit of belief, even when we overall don’t subscribe to poppycock! Well balanced message to show the ups & downs of a thing we rarely read about (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Think with such people one has to say and do as little as possibe when first meeting. Numb and dumb, in other words! Nonetheless, is always so tempting to be tempted! You rock and roll through your poem as if both wary but amused.. but, wearing a prepared to be interested hat. Your writing is always so smoothly, carefully put but also has a somehow relaxed conclusion.

Ha, I'm a wizz at Christmas presents. Buy them all year round.
stanza 3 fifth line i read it as "far too smart"--

this is a fun journey to the stars...or maybe not going that far...i always wonder about psychics, fortune tellers...and as steven wright says...."why do psychics have to ask for your name?"
