(playing with words)

river fishers sleep

grebes, in early morning sun

heads nestled on their breasts

they float on mirror glass

unconcerned

i do not begrudge them

their dreams, they need them

for when they wake

breakfast is in a dive

below surface

Thank you Coyote, they looked so peaceful. Today in the marina, a mallard was sleeping in torrential rain. That really tickled me. I suppose that's where that saying comes from "like water off a duck's back)

Grebes are not the only creatures who regularly "dive below surface"--artists do the same.
