Access Blocked By Fallen Rocks

Access Blocked By Fallen Rocks

A Poem by Chris Shaw

This beach I've learned is out of reach,
its access blocked by fallen rocks.
No more will I enjoy the scene
of children on a summer day,
at play with shells on fine white sand.

Nor will I see them paddle there,
collect salt water in a pail.
Sail their boats where tides creep in and
hear them spin their fantasies of
stately galleons out at sea.

This loss, though sore, does not compare.
I shared this place where I would chat
with Dad, on all things this and that.
We'd walk and talk quite happily,
far greater is this loss to me.

There is always a sadness when things change and we lose access to places that are beyond special to us, for so many reasons. Although none more so than places of shared moments that are priceless.
More sad is the fact that others lose out too, which only adds to the sadness.
Beautifully written Chris. I especially liked the use of pail instead of bucket, it brought memories of my own gran, who used to mock chide us with the phrase "och, away to the pail", which I never did understand, but always made me smile.

Such a sad loss of a favoured place for the family where they made marvelous memories. It amazes me how we humans favour a person, a place , a school and on and on...Prefrences might mean something on a deeper level...
Amazing and I'm so sorry about the beach loss.

You are welcome.
Oh so sad
loss of your favourite beach
More still the memories you would recall of walking on the beach with Dad

I love this and have a very similar hidden place that's overgrown, but, again, the memories are far greater than the place itself. Having this outlook really allowed me to see the sad sort of beauty in this. Bravo to you for publishing, and I look forward to seeing more of your work.
