Scrambled In The Heat

Scrambled In The Heat

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

one from the archives

"
In this stifling summer oven
as I sip on iced green tea,
with a slice of bitter lemon,
I recall a younger me.
Catapulting back in time
Mum's out pegging on the line.
Whispers from a welcome breeze
lift and tease that dress of mine,
risen now from days gone by.

I focus on the dancing hem,
remembering the hunger when,
garden rosy like the posy
my young beau first gave to me.
Till his flirting left me hurting,
fickle youth I set him free.
What became of all those kisses,
floating still in space maybe?

i can certainly relate to this...the first love...the first flirting...and all those kisses that never reached those lips, but instead went somewhere else...
you brought me back...the first part of this brought me back to
Vermont and its beauty...

This is so beautiful! I enjoyed the little romance part and brining the reader into the moment.

As I am fast discovering; those archives are so precious, so important to us. I love the way you bring the reader into the scene; especially enjoyed the last four lines in the first verse, that lead so perfectly to the ever so gentle sensuality of the second verse.

What became of those kisses? Locked in memory forever of course.

Beccy.

A snapshot recalled in a peaceful moment, and so well conveyed to the reader. It’s a happy-sad piece that makes think maybe we ought to focus on the now.

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
