One Starless Night

One Starless Night

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(a second poem posted on moon moods)

"
chariots of heavy cloud,
gun metal greys outnumber
madam moon as she illuminates
the witching hours

hurtling past at speed, a
stampede no less of fast moving
madness casting shadows on her
fine skin

diva is bemused by the race
taking place before her  eyes,
gives out a sigh, says it's time
this usurping stopped

within minutes the wind had
dropped, intermittent spaces
appeared, all activity quietly
disappeared

lunar beauty recovered, no
blemishes or swirling mass to
impair her shimmering face
as she shines bright

queen of light is she, left alone
surrounded by her halo, on an
invisible throne, full ownership
of the heavens restored

Nice little picture you painted here. Weirdly enough I feel like the moon almost prefers to be covered up/overshadowed as it provides something to watch, at least. When she's all alone in the night sky, she's her brightest, but most lonely. The light only sees the full picture of its shape, brilliance, and reach when it has a reference point (the dark) to measure itself by. I can see why so many stories from the past took place in the heavens, it's extremely fun to watch the drama between the clouds, sun, moon, and winds, and the resulting precipitation that falls as a result, as if it was the blood of fallen warriors in an unseen realm that sustains our world.

Aw, Thanks Pete for a lovely review. Much appreciated.
Isis, Selene or what ever you call her her splender is wonderous and varied. I love the moon and the depiction here was great. I feel that there is much more beneath this moon than just the lieral. Fantastic write.

Thank you Soren for such an encouraging review. Most welcome.
beautiful portrait and praise for the one to whom I often bid, " Good night sweet Prince." i know it is not in proper context with Shakespeare but just something to which I gravitated. Enjoyed the manner in which you personified the moon and how she took control of her domain. thanks for the post -carl

I really like how you controlled the pacing in this poem with a sensation of rushing early on until the moon calmed things down.
