Kerb Crawler

Kerb Crawler

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

a slice of memory

"
my mind converses with
my eighteen year old self
to ask why for God’s sake
are men such deceiving
b******s

my skin crawls at the thought
of his stale cigarette breath
breathing down my neck
his nicotine stained fingers
exploring fumbling
touching

I know his wife and kids
I wait at the bus stop on the
way to meet friends
duggie the desperate thinks
he has answered my prayers

his car creeps to a halt
he leans across the passenger seat
unwinds the window
and pleads with me to get in
he’ll wine and dine me he says
only the finest for me

he promises me the planet
anything you want is yours
name it
he has no shame
all that at his finger tips
and yet his lust is bursting
his pants

you’re married duggie I said
haven’t you made promises before
seems no sooner I leave my front door
he appears out of nowhere.

dream on duggie dream on
you aren’t the first and probably
not the last
a forecast ahead a sea swimming
in unfaithful misery

An important write.
The male of whatever species, is usually the aggressor (sexual and otherwise) and as you note, (man)kind also shares this genetic behavior.
For instance, look at the Taliban and the recent atrocities of Hamas!
Tip of the iceberg.
Unfortunately, slimeballs are not in short supply.
Canada's worst shame comes from the high number of native females either missing or murdered!
It is up to parents and others to educate their children of the potential dangers waiting at bus stops or wherever.
Your write has brought this gross behavior down to a more understandable, personal level.

Hi Chris. I've met a few smuggy duggies' in my time and one particularly bad one who frightened the hell out of me. They're mostly married and have highly exaggerated opinions of themselves don't they. The smell of sulphur clings to them.
Another good one from your good self. Nice day today isn't it?xx

I love that this poem is descriptive and detailed yet still easy to follow and understand. Unfortunately, many women can relate. I like the repeated use of his name and the fact that his name is a bit silly/playful/young sounding but which is so different than the character he is portrayed as. I also like the rhythmic beat to the poem. I'm new to this site but looking forward to reading more of your work.

As a father and grandfather of wonderful young ladies I will say that some of us older men watch our progeny like hawks. Someone called me a "helicopter parent" once. I said, Call me whatever the hell you like so long as nobody ever calls my child a "statistic". The world is full of pervs and sexual predators and today it is even worse with online creeps like termites in the wood. Glad you found a poem in the experience and he got his restraining orders.

Yeah I do that occasionally and myself.
Indeed, testosterone is a terrible thing. I at least asked to see their ID's to make sure they were at least 18.
