Graveyards In The Sky

Graveyards In The Sky

A Poem by Chris Shaw

a stampede across night’s tired face
hides moon’s lucent lunar light

chariots of moving menace
driven at speed by wailing winds

moody and morose blotting out
silver smooth unblemished skin

dark smoky ghosts billowing greys
dull her shimmering surface

dimming her loveliness from those
who are supposed to be sleeping

where do they all go when they pass
at haste in a race of silent chase

gathering pace in the velvet dark
speeding without care or attention

graveyards in a murky sky my belief
where clouds drive home to die

I should really wait to comment on this Chris, to when I know of what you talk about, but get this....for the past two days we have had clear blue skies with the heap big yellow fireball in sky blazing away too and not one drop of rain....and no, I'm not on holiday! 😀
I had a weirdly ominous feeling when I saw it again this morning and then saw those bloodied escaped horses rampaging through London, but it still hasn't been in the usual downpour mode. I think the clouds might be broken and in need of a service!
But what you write of is one of my favourite things to watch from kitchen window at silly o'clock of a morn. Watching those smoky swirling clouds pass by lunas face and casting their shadows to spotlight effect.
And your final line rings true too, but only if home to them is Scotland! 😀

A stampede in the sky…
Such a unique way to describe clouds and them moving across the sky.

dark smoky ghosts billowing greys
dull her shimmering surface

Gray billowing ghost suits dark clouds at night and the do dull Lunas light making her seem duller and less dramatic in sight.

All the visuals in this poem are stunning. Makes me think of my almost night adventure sitting outside mesmerizing by the vastness and beauty of the night sky.
