Time Has Come, Stayed, and Passed

Time Has Come, Stayed, and Passed

A Poem by Catherine Li
"

An poem based on a stanza from The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot.

"

A man of great power and he who has progressed

does not let the evening, the morning rest.

It has been long since he has transgressed

the law of the given time, so does he not attest?

Alas, you and I have not gone northwest, Midwest, far west.

It has been long since we have been struck by wonder.

Our eyes, fixated upon the old in the season

as we lounge in the winter and perch in the summer.

Our lives, fulfilled with neither rhyme nor reason,

how much more purposeful is the one of a plebeian!

Time has come, he has stayed in our presence,

beside you, me, and those who have strayed.

He, too, has practiced juvenescence,

and like us, he has played a game of charade

with minds and bodies and time decayed.

Yet, Time is smarter than you and me.

The law of given time he has decided to comply,

or maybe he has befriended someone new

and is now lolling again in the summer hue.

But for you and me, time has passed.
