Sharp Shards

Sharp Shards

A Poem by Firebird
"

About the benefit of meditation

"
My head has been switched on
Like fairy lights at night.
I can't stop the bulbs exploding
Sharp shards, brittle bright.

My thoughts are bubbling over
Like ginger pop from the shed.
I can't stop the fizz, froth, fire
Erupting in my head.

Just sit and breathe, breathe and sit.
Let the shards subside,
Let the foam ferment.
Breathe and sit, just sit and breathe.

...my mind is flowing calmly now,
It carries me downstream
To places I have dreamed about,
The spaces in between.

Well said ... an accurate description of one's overactive mind ... like a child on a sugar high.

I have tried meditation in the past, but it becomes such a catch 22. To quite one's mind, one has to quite one's mind...

I am way too impatient and manic at times, the obvious cause of my restless mind at that. The only thing that effectively calms the gremlins in my head is Lithium but then again, it too is a double edged sword as it dulls creativity entirely and on days where it allows my imprisoned imagination to take flight, it's other side-effects serves to keep me in a listless state, not being able to focus my thoughts on putting my ideas to paper.

Yes, it reminds me that I really ought to sit more!
I like the ginger pop metaphor, I can relate to that one!
I found your use of alliteration throughout to be really engaging and despite the serious subject it was a fun read, with a profound last line.
