Fireworks

Fireworks

A Poem by cbastien
"

Regarding teen spirit.

"

A sonorous laugh

An anguished cry

I can see the explosions in your eyes

The smoke in your lungs

The blinding, flashing colors in your spirit

Sometimes atop the highest mountain,

Screaming to be seen

Other times at the sunken depths of the ocean

Just barely glowing

As the water distorts your light

Everywhere your tongue acts as an incendiary sword

Yet you wield it recklessly

Leaving behind cinders that glow with dreams and determination

And smoke that smells like cigarettes and candy

You've a skip in your step

Followed by a limp

And as I stare

Into the fireworks in in your heart

We smile

Victorious

Once again.
