The Writer's Fire

The Writer's Fire

A Poem by Carole

Had fun with this one...

A raging fire within, a writing compulsion

Begging for release-a motion of expulsion

Freelancing for fun, freelancing for hire

A writer’s delight-the writer’s fire

Perhaps it’s a sliver from your past

A particular circumstance that left you aghast

Write to affirm or write to celebrate

An earthshaking time in history, a notable date

Write to debunk or write to destroy

Write about a pet peeve that aggravates & annoys

Clichés they say are an enemy of taste

Void of vitality & vibrance, a simple waste

Become the editor of your own life

Cherished memories, caustic memories, happy times & strife

Avoid phrases that are pretentiously trite

Miter its edges concisely, lace it up tight

Avoid verbosity & excessive clutter

Polish your text until it sings, make it whimsically flutter

Succinct expressions ascending as on the stalwart wings of an eagle

Make it soar like royalty, princely and splendidly regal

Coax your reader & allure them from the start

Incite their curiosity; strum the strings of their hearts

Provide them something of substance with which they can relate

Toss them a contentious controversy and let them dispute & debate

Rein them in with a question, cajole them with surprise

Throw them a paradox, humor or a glorified lie

Draw them with novelty, an unusual or interesting fact

Keep their attention with suspense, whatever your knack

Let your fingers roll across the page with abandon

Fill your plot with many, ride solo or tandem

Give them a tantalizing monologue

Wow them with an enticing dialogue

A fire within, a writer’s compulsion

Begging for release, a motion of expulsion

An overflowing unction, a dubious notion

A rush of adrenaline, impetuous emotion

Embellish your literary composition with lucid imagery

A free-flowing logical, sequential menagerie

Communicate to encourage, impart to inspire

A compulsion to share, the writer’s fire

This is a basketball game with words!!! I loved it Carole, it must have taken ages to put together and every word a true account of this business of writing LOL! We're all here on the same ticket and it does my heart good to know that I'm not alone. Writing can be a lonely thing can't it?
That compulsion to share is habitual, so is the word 'imagery' I'm learning to hate that word!
You cover about every aspect of writing in this piece...good for you.

Beautiful piece.
This is exactly what a writers fire is, at least mine.
Just a lovely ode to the heart of a writer!

There comes a point in your life when you realize: Who matters, Who never did, Who won't anymore... And who always will. So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn.. more..
