In The Abscence of Fear

In The Abscence of Fear

A Poem by Joyce Marie
"

Sometimes we hide behind a mask to keep the wrongs one out but in the process of that we never let the right ones in.

"

In the abscence of fear there is light

A candle to keep out the darkened night

A decision to make when you have no choice

in a world filled with silence one tiny voice

In the abscence of hate there is love

solid ground to walk upon

a compassionate gesture, a soothing touch

A heart that is guilty of loving too much.

In the abscence of lies there is truth.

Through age we compromise trading wisdom for youth

The journey is the meaning. Nothing matters in the end.

We slip and stumble along the way hoping to find a friend

If we never take the risk then we'll never learn to dance

and nothing is gonna change if we never take the chance

So I've stripped away the mask and now I'm standing here

Looking at you in the abscence of fear.

I think that we as a society have learned to become actors to protect ourselves from those who would take advantage of us or whom would or either intentionally or unintentionally hurt us. As a result, few people are truly themselves. Your poem captures this flaw that we all have to one degree or another and expresses with emotion the fear that we create inside ourselves because of this universal character flaw.

Nicely done.
